ESL Grant

Three local students are the first participants in a new partnership between the Poteau Adult Learning Center and Kiamichi Technology Center.  Gabby Martinez, Leonarda Gonzalez, and Rocia Perez are currently enrolled in the Long-Term Care Nurse Aide FLEX class at the Spiro Campus through the federal Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Program (IELCE) grant.

This grant includes instruction in literacy and English language acquisition in order to prepare adults who are English language learners to be placed in unsubsidized employment, industries, and occupations which lead to economic self-sufficiency.   The Poteau Adult Learning Center is partnering with Kiamichi Technology Center, Poteau Campus, to combine adult education skills, content knowledge, and learning strategies that adult students need to enter and succeed in career pathways and employment.
