POTEAU, Okla. – Clifford Thompson, local U.S. Air Force veteran and 1963 Poteau High School graduate, makes a lasting legacy with a contribution aimed to support students who are training to work in the healthcare field. Thompson recently donated $50,000 to the Kiamichi Tech – Poteau/Spiro Foundation to be used for student certifications, scholarships and training supplies like scrubs and other medical equipment.
"Mr. Thompson is a champion for education and for the future of Kiamichi Tech healthcare students," said Marjorie Wann, foundation member. "His profound dedication to community service sets a remarkable example for all. With this generous contribution, he not only supports students but also strengthens the healthcare workforce in our area, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives."
Raised on a farm near Poteau, he graduated from Poteau High School in 1963 before serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew missions worldwide, including in Vietnam. A licensed Certified Public Accountant in Oklahoma and Texas, Cliff enjoyed a distinguished career, including roles at Baylor Health Care System and American Airlines, before retiring to Poteau, where he actively supports educational initiatives and volunteers with organizations like the Poteau Chamber of Commerce and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
