DURANT, Okla. – Kiamichi Tech recently launched a new training course designed to equip participants with essential skills for the telecommunications industry. The fiber optic bootcamp is made possible through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that aim to expand broadband infrastructure and internet access in rural areas.
“Providing broadband training is crucial for our community and local workforce,” said J. Scott Lowrance, Campus Director at Kiamichi Tech – Durant. “With the need for connectivity rapidly increasing, there is a significant demand for skilled technicians. This training not only supports individuals in advancing their careers but also bolsters our local economy by ensuring we have a well-trained workforce ready to meet industry needs.”
The first class, which included both current industry professionals and job seekers, has successfully completed their training, demonstrating the program's versatility in meeting diverse professional needs.
Participants in the five-day bootcamp gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment and learn key skills including fiber splicing, fiber testing and installation techniques. The bootcamp is facilitated by Learning Alliance Corporation, an industry leader whose expertise and resources ensure participants receive high-quality, practical training that meets industry standards.
Enrollment for the second cohort, which will be held November 18-22, is now open. For more information and to register, contact the Kiamichi Tech Center for Workforce Advancement at 580-924-9096 or email tculley@ktc.edu.
