Matteo Chavarria is a 2022 Stuart High School graduate and completed the Health Careers Education program at Kiamichi Tech – McAlester last year. Matteo says he chose to attend Kiamichi Tech because he was ready to get a head start on his journey to success in the healthcare field.
“In high school, I didn’t know if I wanted to attend college or not, but after touring Kiamichi Tech and the Health Careers program, I knew this was a field I wanted to go into and that Tech was the best first step to becoming a nurse,” says Matteo.
While enrolled in Health Careers, Matteo got a feel for the healthcare field, and with the help of his instructor made his plan to get into nursing school. Upon completion of the program, he became a cerified nursing assistant. During his senior year, Matteo worked as a CNA while completing 28 credited college hours. He then applied and got accepted into the Eastern Oklahoma State College Nursing School.
Matteo returned to Kiamichi Tech after graduating high school for additional training. He completed a flex program to increase his knowledge of the healthcare field and obtained an additional professional liscensure.
“I am currently one semester into RN school and doing great,” said Matteo. “I can proudly say if it weren’t for having the opportunity to attend Kiamichi Tech, then I would not be where I am today. Attending Tech gave me the experience I needed to know that this career path was the right one for me and the confidence to keep working toward my dreams.”
