Meet Kierra Hawks, Computer Information Technology

Kierra Hawks is a Kiamichi Tech graduate from the Computer Information Technology program and now works for a local IT business while furthering her education in computer science. 

Based on her experience and interest in cybersecurity, Kierra saw a need in the community to offer free education for senior citizens on internet safety and scam awareness. She volunteered her time and expertise to offer three classes in Durant and surrounding communities to educate seniors on the importance of staying safe online.

“Be cautious of online interactions and doubt any claim that is made on the internet,” Kierra shared during her class. “Ask yourself: Do I know this person, and would they send something like this to me?”

Kierra shared that it is a best practice to always report any suspicious behavior.

“The internet does not have to be a scary place, it can be a great way to stay connected with family and friends,” Kierra said. “Stay informed and think before you click.”

Kierra is making a difference every day.
