Meet Niki Cearley, EAST/Interactive Media

Niki Clearley is a Kiowa High School graduate that completed the EAST (Education Accelerated by Service & Technology) program at Kiamichi Tech – McAlester in 2022. Niki took the skills she learned at Tech and has made her career dreams come true.

Why did you choose to attend Kiamichi Tech?
I chose to go into the EAST program because I was passionate about Graphic Design and I wanted to learn more about it. Before attending Kiamichi Tech, I felt like I didn't have a set path or even know how to begin my life in design, that's why when I toured the EAST program I knew that was the class that was going to help me with my future.

Are you involved in a CareerTech organization? If so, how has that helped you grow personally or professionally?
As a student, I as a member of Business Professional of America (BPA) and it helped me grow both personally and professionally. BPA helped me become a better listener and a better leader.

What skills have you developed at Kiamichi Tech that have helped you succeed?
In the EAST program I learned the basics of design, illustration, communication and most of all, team work, which has helped me a lot in the graphic design industry.

What are your career plans? How has Kiamichi Tech helped prepare you for that career?
I plan to become a graphic designer. I've had one graphic design internship and recently started a second graphic design internship. I published my first book called "Ivan and the Apple" in December of 2023 and I've had my first Illustrations published in OH18 magazine. If I had attended Kiamichi Tech, I wouldn't be where I am today.
