Kaitlyn Soria will graduate from the Practical Nursing program in June 2024, but before she was accepted into the PN program, she completed the Health Careers Education program, giving her a head start on her career in healthcare.
Why did you choose to attend Kiamichi Tech?
It has always been a dream of mine to work in the medical field. My older sister, Desiree, supported my ambition, inspired me to pursue my dream and led me to Kiamichi Tech. She also completed the Health Careers program and went on to graduate as a Licensed Practical Nurse here (LPN). I am fortunate that I got to see Kiamichi Tech provide her with the resources and opportunities she needed to reach her goals.
What skills have you developed at Kiamichi Tech that will help you in your career?
Kiamichi Tech has provided me with many skills, from helping me be prepared for things such as job interviews or how to interact with my
patients while in the field. From the basic necessities required in healthcare today to the life saving measures needed in emergencies, I am prepared for success. Early on, I was provided with a CPR certification and that experience and knowledge gave me the skills needed to help save my daughter’s life when she was just two months old.
What are your career plans?
My career goal is to become an RN and to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in the labor and delivery field. Kiamichi
Tech gave me the head start I needed in my career by certifying me in healthcare at the age of 16 which allowed me to start gaining valuable industry experience before I graduated high school. I am now 21 and have five years of experience in my field, which is more than most have when they graduate college.
